Course Overview
This course is designed to support fire protection technicians responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of non-gaseous pre-engineered fire suppression systems. It covers systems using foam, wet chemical, powder, or water mist agents and aligns with the nationally recognised unit:

This training does not include installation or repair tasks restricted to licensed trades. It focuses on fire suppression system maintenance, testing, and inspection in accordance with Australian fire safety standards.

Workplace Logbook
To demonstrate your skills in real-world settings, you’ll be required to complete a Workplace Logbook. In accordance with the assessment criteria outlined on Training.gov.au, students must complete the following logbook tasks to achieve competency:
- Six-monthly/yearly inspection and test procedures on 2 non-gaseous pre-engineered fire-suppression systems including
- replace the agent and recharge the system to operational condition
- replace one component within the extinguishing system with approved replacement componentry
- replace one component within the detection system with approved replacement componentry
- Appropriate documentation should be attached as evidence of tasks
- Risk assessment documents such as Take-5, JHA etc
- Maintenance documents such as service register, maintenance report etc.
- The logbook must be signed off by a supervisor.

Entry Requirements
Communication
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.
- Assessors can provide additional support to participants as requested. If specialised support, such as an interpreter, is required, further costs may be incurred.
Workplace Logbook
- Participants should either be employed in the fire industry or have the ability to perform routine servicing of specific fire protection equipment under workplace supervision.
Physical capability
- Participants must be physically able to conduct good manual handling techniques. You should be able to safely pick up 15-20kg and conduct 10 minutes of mild continuous exercise.
Driver’s License
- Have a valid or the equivalent of an Australian driver’s license.
Pre-Enrolment Requirement
PTI requires all prospective students to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy (LLND) self-assessment before enrolment is finalised.
This screening is conducted online and takes approximately 10–15 minutes. PTI uses LLND results to identify support needs and offer reasonable adjustments, such as additional tutorials, mentoring, or modified delivery formats.
This ensures students are set up for success from the start.
Any reasonable adjustments must not compromise the requirements of the relevant training product and the integrity, equity and fairness of assessment.
